The Truth About Suicide

As a result of his sufferings, Job longed for death. He wanted God to destroy him so that he could have ‘some comfort’ from his afflictions (Job 6:8-11). Just like Job, so many people long for death as a way out of their miseries or the unpleasant situations that they are in. They think that death is the only way out and that after they die, they will be at rest. In other words, they think that after they have killed themselves, they will then have peace.

They think this way because they love or hate themselves so much that they do not want to subject themselves to any further misery. They do not know that according to the Word of God, they are hastening themselves into a life of eternal damnation, torments and anguish.

Assisted suicide or euthanasia is no exception because killing yourself is a sin against God. When you kill yourself or help another person to kill his or herself, you sin by violating the Word of God that was spoken by the Lord Jesus in Matthew 5:21: “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment.

Therefore, when you kill yourself, God has to judge you and send you to hell because suicide is a sin. Praying before killing yourself is worst because not only is the act of suicide a premeditated act, it becomes a ‘willful sin’ when you pray before doing it; you are telling God that His Word that says not to kill is not important to you. This is why the Lord Jesus said in Luke 12:47-48: “And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes (killing yourself), shall be beaten with few stripes.

Be it known to you that those who make it to heaven are not beaten only those who go to hell. The soul of every man and woman lives forever in heaven or in hell.

God’s Word Concerning Those Who Destroy Their Bodies

The following scriptures refer to those who abuse, destroy, maim or kill their bodies: “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10).

Again, God said in Isaiah 57:21:If any man defile the temple of God, (the body), him shall God destroy (in hell).”

This destruction in hell is called the second death. When you kill yourself, you not only defile the Temple of God but you destroy it. Therefore, God counts you among the wicked because of your final wicked action.

The Following are Certain Biblical Judgements on the Wicked

No peace to the wicked (Isaiah 57:21)

God is angry with the wicked (Psalm 7:11)

The wicked shall be turned into hell (Psalm 9:17)

The Lord is far from the wicked (Proverbs 15:29)

The way of the wicked is an abomination (highly distasteful) to God (Proverbs 15:9)

The wicked are like troubled sea (Isaiah 57:20)

From the above scriptures, we see that when someone commits an act of wickedness like killing his or herself or commits suicide, he or she brings upon them the judgments that have been pronounced above upon the wicked. Therefore, they cannot have a life of peace after death.

It is written in Hebrews 9:27It is appointed unto man once to die, and after that the judgment” but you are not allowed to bring about your own death. You must not die by your own hands. We all shall be judged by God based on what we did with our body on earth as we see in 2 Corinthians 5:10:

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”

Hell is a Terrible Place to Go

It is a terrible thing to go to hell because of the following facts:

The fire in hell will never be quenched.

The worms on the wicked who are in hell will never die—“Where their worms dieth not, and the fire is not quenched” (Mark 9:44).

Those in hell are cut-off from God forever.

Those in hell are tormented by demons day and night.

There is no peace for those in hell.

As you can see from God’s Word, suicide is not a ticket to a life of ‘eternal peace and rest’. Rather, it is a one-way ticket to a life of eternal damnation from the presence of God and everlasting torments in hell fire. Also, it is a place where the people are covered with worms that will never die!

If you are contemplating suicide, you need to know the truth from the Word of God that I have outlined so far. Do not fall for the lies of the devil that ‘suicide is an easy way out of a life of pain and anguish’.

The truth is that no suffering on earth can compare to the eternal anguish in hell and there is no comfort in hell. This means that there is no way to alleviate the pain and sufferings in hell. Those who want to end their lives by suicide need to know what awaits them on the other side—hell!
